I felt compelled to write this article about one of my companies, Activ Web Design, today as the internet and internet-based businesses are always being labeled as things they are not!
Just because a business operates online it does not mean it isn’t an honest business with integrity. I can understand why online businesses get labeled as scams, cons etc in some instances, there are a lot of cons and scams out there (the nigerian lottery winnings, the inheritance from a King in Somalia, I am sure you have seen the emails too) but there are many honest and successful businesses that operate in this industry.
As one of the largest web design companies in the UK Activ Web Design are a professional organisation that offer web design services to small businesses across the UK, Ireland, France and Australia. Web Design is traditionally known as a ‘techie’ type business but Activ take away all of the confusion with web design, they offer fixed price websites that are designed to help a business:
Save Money
Save Time
Make Money

It’s pretty much a given these days that businesses must have a website if they are to compete effectively in a crowded marketplace.
But, in reality, how does marketing your goods and services online benefit the average small business?
Director of highly successful web development business Activ Web Design, Simon Rickett is certainly well qualified to explain.
Since launching Activ in March 2008 we have helped literally hundreds of SMEs and owner managed businesses improve their prospects through marketing on the internet.
Simon Rickett added: “To answer this question, you really don’t have to look further than the wide selection of glowing testimonials featured on our own website – with many customers discovering that their new site quickly paid for itself.
“From golf clubs to restaurants and games retailers to double glazing firms, customers nationally – and internationally – are reporting increased business as a direct result of their Activ website.
“In some instances, our satisfied customers are reporting higher sales while others are enjoying significant cost reductions in overheads. One restaurateur, for example, used to send out his Christmas menus by post but is making considerable savings on printing and postage by referring customers to the menu section of his new website.”
There are other … continue reading article.

When Simon Rickett first launched their Activ Web Design business in 2008 the key aim was to provide an affordable service to businesses with no online presence.
Nearly two years on Activ is more than fulfilling its brief, with its local area mangers building cost effective, user friendly websites for a host of business concerns across the UK and beyond.
What Simon hadn’t considered though on launching Activ was the market potential which existed among smaller retailers and other companies who already had their own website.
However, latest feedback from Activ would suggest that there are plenty of people out there who have already embraced the internet’s vast commercial potential but for various reasons still need Activ’s help.
Simon Rickett added: “Before launching Activ Web Design we carried out extensive research and found to our surprise that some 50 per cent of SMEs still didn’t have a website despite the internet overtaking TV as the main focus of the nation’s attention.
“These findings gave us the impetus to launch Activ and address the issue.
“However, what we hadn’t taken into account was the high number of smaller businesses who already have a website but for some reason weren’t enjoying the business benefits of an online presence.
“For … continue reading article.

I suppose this is a bit of a moan, but hey ho! I do think what I am about to say is fully justified, however I will let you be the judge of that. Here goes…
There is no escape that we are in the worse recession of all time. Yes some industries have been hit worse than others but we have all had to watch the pennies, in some way or the other.
For small businesses times have been hard, I only have to walk round my local town to see high street shops closing all the time. With this happening, what I find totally amazing is that speaking to businesses they are still not ‘batting clever’ with their marketing.
It isn’t a criticism, just when the pennies are hard to come by, then the marketing strategies being implemented need to be more justified than ever. For a local business to advertise in the local newspaper each week, costs from anything from £200 – £1000 dependent upon the size of the advert, and this is for only one week! What happens to that newspaper within a few days of it being delivered? We are eating our fish and chips off it in … continue reading article.
